Beach huts usually consist of one roomed wooden building with just enough space for a few deckchairs, buckets and – of course – a stove for the mandatory kettle. Their occupation is usually restricted to day use only, although some larger huts – or chalets – are approved for residential use for some months of the year. Despite all this, and all the maintenance and leasehold costs associated with them,  beach huts today command five-to-six-figures price tags.

Why is that? Possibly, their secret lies in their bright colours and romantic appeal. These utilitarian buildings do represent the perfect combination of luxury and simplicity. They are symbolic of  family holidays, magical seaside evenings and of a slower lifestyle, away from it all. A place that's all about the sea, the sand, the wind and you.

If you'd like to enjoy the deeply therapeutical experience of living by the sea, here are a few resources:
www.beach-huts.co.uk is full of huts for sale and packed with news; a web-site with a community feeling;
www.uk-beachhuts.co.uk, to have your own beach hut built to your specification.
In most cases beach huts are owned by local councils: if you are interested in renting a beach hut for a day, a week, or a season, try the web-site of the relevant local authority, like www.avon-beach.co.uk.
